12. Positioning Against Existing Methods and Tools
DACS does not criticize or replace existing platforms, methods, or governance disciplines. Many are essential to the modern enterprise environment. DACS clarifies their boundary for material decision use.
Tools can move, expose, document, model, observe, automate, and infer from information. DACS defines what must be true before that information is treated as decision-scope evidence for Defensible Analytics.
A data catalog, semantic layer, ontology tool, AI platform, lineage system, data fabric, data mesh, lakehouse, warehouse, or governance platform may provide useful evidence. DACS conformance requires the evidence specified by applicable DACS controls.
Existing AI guardrail systems, policy engines, semantic layers, catalogs, data-contract systems, lineage systems, model-monitoring systems, observability platforms, and governance tools may implement controls or supply evidence. DACS does not rename those capabilities as DACS. Evidence from those mechanisms may support a DACS control only when it contains the required evidence and is evaluated against the applicable decision-scope criteria.
