Chapter 2 of 19

2. Scope

2.1 In Scope

  • Determining whether decision evidence is ready for stated use within a stated decision scope.
  • Binary control requirements for identity, meaning, classification, relationship paths, preserved context, Gate records, evidence records, and reconstructable decision paths.
  • Deterministic evaluation rules requiring every applicable control to resolve to Pass or Fail, with Not Applicable permitted only from an explicit Applicability Rule.
  • Conformance profiles for Core Decision-Scope Controls, Extended Taxonomy Controls, Extended Ontology Controls, and AI Context Contract Controls.
  • Gate readiness states: Proceed, Caution, Stop, and Quarantined.
  • Implementation-neutral evidence requirements that may be satisfied through many technical or procedural mechanisms.
  • Control records and Conformance Records that can be inspected, queried, exported, or reconstructed by authorized reviewers or downstream systems.

2.2 Out of Scope

  • Certification of a software product, platform, vendor, data model, or architecture as DACS-compliant in general.
  • A legal guarantee that a decision is correct, risk-free, compliant with external law, or immune from challenge.
  • Replacement of data governance, data quality, metadata management, taxonomy, ontology, lineage, AI governance, risk management, architecture, or stewardship disciplines.
  • Mandating a specific physical implementation such as a graph database, catalog, semantic layer, data warehouse, lakehouse, data vault, or workflow platform.
  • Defining a full organizational operating model, job family, training curriculum, or certification program.
  • Establishing a legal or regulatory compliance scheme unless such authority is separately granted and published by DataVaultAlliance Holdings LLC.
