EVIDENCE-LED ADOPTION

Start bounded. Expand only when the operating pattern earns it.

DACS adoption begins with one material decision path, then expands only when the control pattern can be repeated, governed, integrated, and sustained.

This is an adoption sequence, not a maturity score. An organization may remain deliberately bounded, remediate before continuing, repeat the same pattern, expand to a new scope, or stop when the evidence does not justify more.

THE ADOPTION MOVES

Six moves take DACS from first visibility to a sustainable operating pattern.

Each move answers a different leadership question. Progress is justified by evidence from the operating pattern, not by a calendar, tool purchase, or transformation mandate.

MOVE 01

Expose

Leadership question

Where do we actually stand on one material decision path?

Evidence to see

Declared scope, known evidence, applicable controls, initial Gate readiness, and visible gaps.

Decision

Stop, remediate, remain bounded, or continue.

MOVE 02

Stabilize

Leadership question

Can the path be supported without one-off memory or heroics?

Evidence to see

Clear ownership, remediated failures where feasible, retest results, explicit constraints, and a preserved record.

Decision

Keep bounded until the pattern is dependable enough to repeat.

MOVE 03

Repeat

Leadership question

Can the same control pattern work again without starting from zero?

Evidence to see

A second run, change retest, or similar scope using reusable questions, ownership, evidence patterns, and Gate logic.

Decision

Determine whether the pattern is repeatable enough to integrate.

MOVE 04

Integrate

Leadership question

Can existing systems supply the evidence without creating a parallel control estate?

Evidence to see

Governance, lineage, quality, semantic, workflow, and AI controls connected to decision-scope requirements.

Decision

Automate only what already has clear rules, evidence, authority, and consequence.

MOVE 05

Expand

Leadership question

Where does the proven pattern justify another decision scope or profile?

Evidence to see

Clear applicability, reusable controls, accountable owners, preserved records, and a reason the next scope is worth governing.

Decision

Add scope deliberately rather than declaring enterprise-wide adoption.

MOVE 06

Sustain

Leadership question

Does readiness survive change?

Evidence to see

Review triggers, change detection, reassessment, retesting, evidence retention, and reconstructable decision history.

Decision

Keep, constrain, remediate, retire, or re-evaluate as conditions change.

The roadmap is directional, not compulsory. A bounded pattern can be the right end state.

EVIDENCE BEFORE EXPANSION

Automation and scale come after the pattern is understood.

Automating unclear rules, weak evidence, or missing ownership only makes the uncertainty move faster. Expanding a successful bounded Gate does not certify the next scope.

Expansion is a new evidence-backed decision, not a reward for reaching the next move.

BEFORE YOU EXPAND

Prove repeatability, accountability, and supportability.

  • Repeatability: the control pattern can be applied again without rebuilding the logic from memory.
  • Accountability: the sponsor owns the adoption decision, the decision owner owns the stated use, evidence owners own what the controls inspect, and Gate authority owns the consequence.
  • Supportability: existing governance, lineage, semantic, quality, workflow, and AI capabilities can supply the required evidence without creating a parallel technology estate.

Named authority is an adoption prerequisite. More technology is not.

START AT MOVE 01

The roadmap starts with visibility, not transformation.

A DACS First Look provides the bounded starting point. It exposes what one decision path can support, what is missing, and whether deeper work is justified before the organization considers repeatability or expansion.
